Transforming online learning to mobile
Scope:
TAFE Digital’s legacy Online Learning System (OLS) was not mobile-friendly at a time when mobile usage was rapidly increasing. In 2010, I was brought on to adapt the system for mobile devices, just as the iPhone revolution began to reshape how people interacted with digital platforms. The project evolved into a long-term transformation of TAFE’s digital learning experience.
Action:
I led the redesign of the OLS, delivering a completely new approach to online learning that made it accessible across smartphones, tablets, and desktops. My designs enabled students to complete assignments and engage with course content on the go – something previously not possible. Over more than nine years, I continuously refined and upgraded the platform, delivering several major milestones, culminating in a modern, responsive system. The video featured in my portfolio is a walkthrough of the latest version I designed in 2017.
Results:
The redesigned OLS fundamentally changed the student experience at TAFE Digital. More than half a million students earned qualifications through the new system while I was there. The platform became a flagship example of mobile-first education delivery, positioning TAFE Digital as a leader in accessible, flexible online learning.
