Creating sustainable design model
Scope:
Upon joining NSW Health, I discovered that several internal mobile apps had been designed and developed without a consistent approach. Each app used different design styles and UI logic, leading to fragmented user experiences and inefficient development cycles.
Actions:
I conducted a comprehensive audit of existing mobile applications and proposed a unified design strategy tailored specifically for mobile. Drawing from the NSW Government Digital Design System, I created a bespoke mobile design system that introduced consistent visual language, components, and interaction patterns across all apps.
To support scalability and clarity, I developed an advanced Figma component library using variants and interactive features. This allowed for realistic prototyping and helped developers better understand functionality and behaviour.
In each project, I worked closely with development teams to oversee and guide the integration of the design system into ReactJS-built apps, ensuring accurate implementation and consistent UX across devices.
Results:
The new design system significantly improved the user experience, reduced design and development time, and ensured visual and functional consistency across NSW Health’s mobile ecosystem. It became a sustainable design foundation for future mobile applications, streamlining workflows and fostering better collaboration between design and development teams.
